FYIs, part 3

Sneezing when you’re driving is kind of scary.

I love a good book, but hate when it’s finished. For that reason I will always leave the last few pages and kind of ration them out over a couple days, unless I have another book waiting to be read. Then I just finish the first one and move on.

Larabar is retiring the Cocoa Mole flavor, so stock up if you like it.

lara (It was never my favorite flavor, but maybe I should still send a card joking about all the extra time it will have to go golfing now?)

Two people can experience the exact same thing in entirely different ways.

When you are running behind, the following things are bound to happen on your drive: you will realize your gas tank is on “E” and debate the merits of stopping or chancing it and waiting until later; you will hit every red light; you will get stuck behind a farm implement with no room to pass (still obsessively checking the gas gauge every five seconds) before passing a cop and silently thanking said farm implement for forcing you to go under the speed limit even though you’re late.

OK. Maybe that just happened to me.

I love The Onion and this one is so, so true. Person With Almost No Responsibility Always Stressed Out.

I can feel much more insecure than I thought, and this royally pisses me off.

Baking salmon, steaming broccoli and boiling eggs at the same time can make your kitchen smell…interesting.

Amy’s Four Cheese Pizza is in fact a bit more delicious than just the cheese version.

4chz

They claim the crust is thinner, but I didn’t think so (I love the crust on this one.) And as we know, thin food can cause controversy.

Post block syndrome—similar to writer’s block in that one feels unable to come up with any post-worthy content.

"People can’t conceive of a virtue in someone else that they can’t conceive in themselves. Instead of believing you’re stronger, it’s so much easier to imagine you’re weaker." — Chuck Palahniuk

If an old lady calls you “sweetie,” it’s sweet. If a woman your own age calls you “sweetie,” it’s completely condescending.

Speaking of sweet, here is your cute animal video for the week.

Finding a band-aid anywhere is just really gross.

There will be people that don’t like you. There will be people you don’t like. Shrug it off.

I’m learning it takes trust and vulnerability to really be a friend.  See, a true friend is one that has seen your vulnerabilities, couldn’t care less and reminds you that this too shall pass.

On that note, it’s “couldn’t care less” and not “could care less.” Sorry. Pet peeve.

All my magazine subscriptions arrive on about the same day and I feel overwhelmed and like I have to hurry up and read them all. However, two weeks later half of them will still be sitting on my “throw it there” table, unread. Sigh…

I always doubt myself the second I hit publish on certain posts, but it helps to remember that:

"We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation. It’s one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it’s another to think that yours is the only path" ~ coehlo

Nuns riding bikes will not always yield to pedestrians. Trust me on this one.

Just like the last two times, share your FYIs!

  1. I am with you on the band-aid. I am FYI less today – other then I am sick of:
    1. The debate over the mosque
    2. The fact that people still argue over Prop 8
    3. The fact no-one in DC can drive in the rain. or sun.
    4. The way I always forget SOMETHING at the grocery store.

    xoxo

  2. I am the same way with magazines (and also with Netflix). I get overwhelmed, even though I love them. I’m also the same way with good books. I tend to get kind of moody as I’m nearing the end of a good book. I guess I’m mourning prematurely.

It bothers me to be called “ma’m” more than “sweetie.” I’ve also realized that people from the South can call me “sweetie” and it’s not condescending, for some reason. Otherwise, yes, very rude.

Along the lines of “couldn’t care less,” I am always perplexed by the phrase, “Can’t hardly wait.” Please explain how this makes any sense.

I didn’t know it was possible, but I like you even more for quoting Chuck Palahniuk.

  3. Driving + sneezing = horror. I know.

Insecure. Yes. This trait has shone brightest during my last years of my 20’s. I am fighting it. But just when you start to feel brave, confident and good again….you forget about it, and you have to start over.

Friends. And those that accept you despite your weaknesses, vulnerabilities, etc. Yes. Good point. I read somewhere something along the lines of a friend is someone that will be happy for you no matter your successes and failures. NOT someone who considers you ONLY in relation to themselves. That got me thinking….
(also, why I fear I come across as “unlikable” to some people/bloggers…I sometimes dont shut my mouth quick enuf and dump all my silly fears and insane/nutty words onto others and they cut contact…and I understand – but it makes me lecture myself, …and doesn’t help that insecurity thing…which causes it in the first place.

Magazines. What’s that? Ha. What ones do you subscribe to?

Where do you find all these interesting websites? Neat.

  4. I love this post! And ditto on the bandaid comment. Yuck.

    FYI:
–Dead cockroaches are as gross as live cockroaches
–The word “cockroach” is gross, too
–It only takes one stressed out person to make me anxious and stressed out
–I would love to smack those women who call me sweetie AND ma’am!

ps. Would love to know some of your favorite books…

  5. Here we go:

-When you read “Self” magazine aren’t you always a little disappointed that there’s nothing about you in there? (not that I read Self, but in the waiting room..)

-Secretly don’t we all want Jared to gain that weight back?

    – Care Bears Movie is surprisingly not very realistic. I think its for kids or something…..

-You ever accidentally catch someone in their underwear? That’s awkward. Especially, if you’re holding a knife.

  6. i like post-block. not to be confused with post-it block, which is that awesome stack of colored notepaper that you buy for random cousin or lady in the next cubicle for holiday. sometimes it comes in a cute wooden container of its own, maybe even a pen is attached.

    perfect for list making. 😉

  7. When you want a free vacation, go take a nap.

  8. When I hear someone say, “You know what?” I think of seven year old boys.

  9. Why does it seem like when you think you’re looking pretty good that day, no one is around to see it. Or atleast no one special is. And then other days when you think you like sh*t, everyone wants to show up?

    ❤ Tori

  10. I hate it when people say “could care less” – drives me bonkers! Loving these posts from you.

  11. Hi, Abby,
I’m popping over to your blog now, since you so kindly said “hi” on mine. 🙂 I look forward to reading your posts, new and old, and to chatting more over time!

  13. “couldn’t care less” and not “could care less.” A mutual pet peeve.

FYI: I’ve always imagined Casinos to be the some of the most depressing places on earth. Yesterday I discovered that I was completely right. 10 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

FYI: I have an ongoing search to find a roller-coaster that actually scares me.

FYI: Animal shows bore me to no end.

FYI: Red Delicious apples never live up to their name.

  14. FYI:
*As much as I adore my two dogs, I will never accept the fact that hair “tumbleweeds” will blow through my house on a daily basis, no matter how much we sweep/vacuum the place.
*I mainly find tea to be rather disgusting.
*I cringe every time I hear a screaming baby–or my friends reprimanding their screaming kids on the other end of the phone line–and say a little prayer of thanks that I am childfree.
*I find the smell of toothpaste (when it gets on my hand) to be rather gag-worthy.
*I hate people who have to “proclaim” how interesting their lives are by speaking at the top of their lungs either to friends or their children whilst in grocery stores/restaurants.
Ooh, that was snarky stuff. 😉
